The Pro-Child Way on Facebook

June 2009

Five years later and just getting started

Endings become beginnings

I’m in awe of gifted individuals who are able to be so in tune with the Spirit that they know just what to do. But for me to embark on a new path, it takes an audible command from a tangible human being: “you should write a book.” And so I began.

The book quickly took shape. In the period of an extended weekend, I laid out the format. It may have taken a direct command for me to pay attention, but the Spirit quickly took over as my book on divorced parenting took form. Five years later, my book rests in the hands of a publisher, leaving me asking, “now what?”. While my vision for my future takes shape, I know that writing a book on divorced parenting was just the beginning. With my intentions in place, opportunities, gifted individuals, and words of encouragement from divorced parents are guiding me on my way.

My goal? To positively impact children’s lives by showing parents the Pro-Child Way of raising a child through divorce. Always remembering that a child’s smile quickly fades unless the parent makes thoughtful decisions to wrap their child in love, security, consistency, and joy.

Remembering my own children’s expanding hearts is my motivation. Showing other parent’s the way of love is The Spirit’s goal. Now that I’m listening, I marvel at all the fantastic ways that I’m going to be a part of that happening.

The Pro-Child Way: parenting with an Ex

An introduction

THE PRO-CHILD WAY: PARENTING WITH AN EX questions The OLD Way of reacting to an Ex and introduces The Pro-Child Way of raising a child. The book’s “problem/solution” layout makes it easy for a parent to gain advice on their issue while addressing the child’s need for love, patience, kindness, consistency, and security. Is a child asking if you love her Dad? Before responding in the old way, grab the book! Is an Ex late for his visit? Quick, check the book. Parenting with an Ex guides parents through the trickiest of divorced parenting situations, including: determining the child’s visitation and holiday schedule; handling a child’s tearful goodbye; dealing with an Ex at the child’s birthday; formulating child support; welcoming stepparents and extended families; and, managing the child’s discipline and behavior issues. Forty-six divorced parenting situations are addressed using The Pro-Child Way, as well as words of encouragement to keep a parent choosing the right path.

The book emphasizes that good parenting skills are absolute and are not corrupted by marital status. It offers a fresh perspective, not from an academic or psychologist’s study, but from the caring heart of a mom who has been there and taken a mindful path. By learning to recognize and then silence their own ego, parents can save their child from the effects of the typical divorce and instead nurture their child’s spirit through the process. Just as I have done it, so can others who are seeking a better way.

THE PRO-CHILD WAY: PARENTING WITH AN EX will inspire these parents to continue making a positive impact in their children’s lives – even through divorce.

Connections: inspiring individuals

Joanie Winberg, Founder NADWC

I’m always amazed when I see the universe weaving it’s magic… It started by me sending a short email to Joanie, exclaiming that I lived in the same town that her Foundation’s Spa Getaway Contest was to take place. Her response immediately followed, starting a wonderful friendship – which included her standing in the rain with me as we waited for my daughter’s release from recital practice!

I’m so thrilled to have been a part of Joanie’s heartwarming contest, which allowed two deserving women a weekend of Chocolate Spa pampering. Joanie’s work empowers women during and after a divorce so that they can become role models for their children and community. Now that is someone that I am proud to know.

Book Update

On May 15, The Pro-Child Way: Parenting with an Ex was turned over to the publisher. After years of additions and revisions, it was fantastic to declare: “Completed!”. I’m sure the publisher will have some edits and tweaks - all welcome enhancements. I was very excited to receive an ISBN number for the book. With the book off my desk, I’m ready for the next step: sharing it with others.

Proposed release date:
January 2010
